This site appraisal proposed a development of a 96 bed destination hotel, conference centre and 42 dwellings, along with bars, restaurants and casino. This was the north east Birmingham site of a former machine plant with a high quality '50s HQ building fronting onto a canal. This canal severs the site from the arterial roads that give fast access to the motorways and centre.
A new light vehicular bridge across the canal enables this and adjacent areas to be rebuilt, regenerated and better integrated, significantly improving the sites locational value. The HQ building is retained and converted and extended vertically with a fractal iceberg form in curtain wall glazing acting as a beacon of light visible from miles to the south, and signalling the regeneration. A new residential quarter is developed to the north with opportunity for expansion across adjacent sites. All existing canal side routeways, landscape and habitats are retained for amenity.
