Situated on a south-facing hillside this large 500+m2 private house enjoys180 degree panoramic views over countryside to the south. The ground level and retaining walls of the dwelling are constructed from fieldstone raised by new furrows ploughed into undisturbed grounds. These furrows are naturally backfilled with finer rain washed soils which are re-colonised naturally by different vegetation to form patterns across the landscape. Objects from the clients collection are located on the two most significant nearby knolls with views out of the house aligned on axis.
Above ground level the building is a lightweight timber construction comprising two distinct classical and simple volume. These are shaped like the extrusion of a top hat section open at the ends; and with continuous windows and drop shutters along both long elevations. One volume provides the core living facilities, master bedroom and office for the house the other provides the guest wing with the swimming pool located in the space between. Sizable double height living areas are positioned with views to the south with large terrace to the west and veranda to the south.
Water is gathered and treated on site. The large water store located within the double height living area and swimming pool provide a large thermal store for the significant roof top solar array. Heating is otherwise from wood burning boiler & stoves. Windows are triple glazed.
