Part of a consortium bid, the practices proposal for this 0.68 h. South London site, comprised a total 85, 1,2,3 & 4 bedroom dwellings at a density of 512 h.r.h.
A street of Victorian terraced houses and an Edwardian mansion with tall brick buttresses and bays are notably distinguished. A simple urban repair is proposed, with massing relating directly to these 2 existing typologies. On the primary street 4 new apartments rhythmically continue the sequence of buttresses from the existing mansions. These are interspersed by gardens and accesses which retain the sites existing trees and provide a wildlife corridor. A mews of south facing 3 storey terraced houses links across the site creating a sympathetic coherent street grain which knits together and repairs the areas fabric.
Site spoil has been reused in bunds and devon banks providing an intensely landscaped base to the development. The plan explored various anticipated new design standards and was projected to level 4 of the code for sustainable homes.
