This new theatre has been located on a site identified within the Northwich regeneration masterplan on Barons Quay to the north west of the town centre.
The theatre, its facilities, one stop shop, Tourist Information, bar, cafe, and offices are proposed alongside a regeneration of the quay flood wall to provide supplemental barge moorings, and pedestrian bridge linking extensive routes to both riverbanks.
The building is a low carbon development, the auditorium is naturally stack ventilated, of timber and steel construction, clad in long staves of close spaced timber above a glazed ground floor, uses the residual underground salt mines beneath the site for thermal storage and heat cycling; and is raised to avoid river flooding. Within the auditorium side splay bleachers are used, 90% of the audience are within 20m of the performers, and all lie within 30% of the direct axial view
